Sewanee Elementary School proudly celebrates 100 years of learning, community, and tradition. Construction of the community-built school began in 1924, and by 1926 its doors opened to generations of local students—cementing the school as a cornerstone of Sewanee life. Over the past century, Sewanee Elementary has witnessed tremendous change, from overcoming the challenges of segregation laws to welcoming many legacy families whose children and grandchildren have walked the same halls. For 100 years, the school has remained a place where community, resilience, and education come together—shaping the lives of students and strengthening the heart of Sewanee.
